Graffiti: Vandalism or Art?

     When I take a walk around the streets of New Hamburg on a dark night, I like to go in the direction that takes me to a bridge. Not just any ordinary bridge, but the one that I always count on to be decorated with tags and pictures I know all too well. There is a very talented group of young men whos tags I see all over town. I find the best ones are always under the bridge.
    
     It all depends on what a person graffitis to determine if it is vandalism or art. When I see "f**c the police" it is clearly not what I would classify as art. It is there to be vandalism, not to get people to stop and stare for a couple of minutes.
    
     The graffiti artists in New Hamburg spend time and effort into the pictures and tags they spray onto the concrete under the bridge. This is art, it doesn't diss or offend anyone. People like to stop for a second and bask in the awesomeness of the art on the walls, even if it may not be legal.
   
      Just because it isnt legal does not take away from the fact that it can be beautiful, awesome or just plain cool looking.

    I agree. I mean you look at the pictures they have put so much time into and you can't even put it into word of what you can see in them. They are an open door to what ever we want

    Agreed!
    I think it is senseless when people spray paint swear words. t looks stupid and nobody wants to watch. But when people put the amound of effort into it that these artists do, many people love to stop and look!

    agreed you can see all over the places people put FTP(**** the police) or even FTW (**** the world) and it's isn't art or graffiti it's just plain dumb

    I agree completely. Just because its illegal, doesnt mean it cant be thought provoking or envoke a feeling of some sort.

    I AGREE, as just about everyone else that commented... BUT, I know that bridge... that counts for stuff.. I think..
